Terms for the sandbox

Last updated 3 February 2026

What is on offer today

The sandbox API is available now, free, with no account. The production service described elsewhere on this site — durable storage, regional pinning, customer-managed keys — is in development and is not yet available to buy. Prices shown on the pricing section are intended production pricing, not an offer capable of acceptance.

Limits

A sandbox key expires seven days after issue and holds twenty chunks. Requests are limited to five key issues, thirty writes, and sixty recalls per minute per address. Exceeding a limit returns HTTP 429 with a Retry-After header. Limits may change without notice.

Do not send it anything that matters

Sandbox data is held in process memory and is discarded on restart. It is not backed up and not recoverable. Do not submit personal data, customer data, credentials, or confidential information. You are responsible for what you send.

No warranty and no service level

The sandbox is provided as-is, with no warranty of availability, accuracy, or fitness for any purpose, and no service level commitment. It may be changed, rate-limited further, or withdrawn at any time. Do not build anything you depend on against it.

Retrieval results come from a small fixed demo corpus plus what you store. They illustrate how the API behaves; they are not advice and not a benchmark.

Acceptable use

Do not attempt to break the rate limits, forge keys, exhaust the host, or use the sandbox to process unlawful content. Access may be blocked without notice.

Privacy

What the site and sandbox collect is described in the privacy notice.

Who these terms are with

The sandbox is operated by Itan.

Start with a key.

A key is issued instantly and lasts seven days. Store a chunk, recall it with any of the six strategies, delete it and get the count back. No sign-up, no card, no call.
